READING
I am reading Family Celebrations by June Cotner: Poems, Toasts and Traditions for every occasion. Here is an excerpt from her book:
Family Blessing
We gather in gratitude-
May our present, past and future
be honored and blessed.
Me we, as family and friends,
be stitched together as
One heart, one home, one nation, one world,
One everlasting love
I don't mind praying out loud but, from time to time, people in my family would prefer to "borrow some inspiration" from a book, instead of having to pray on demand. Maybe yours would also.
I am also reading Praying like Monks and Living Like Fools by Tyler Statom.
So far the book has been great and it explores:
- Expressing your doubts and disappointments about prayer
- Practices multiple postures of prayer including silence, persistence and confession
- Understanding and embracing the wonder and mystery of prayer in everyday life
I can be a little guilty of giving God my to-do list of what I would like him to take care of, so this week I am trying to practice my daily prayers of Thanksgiving for that I already have.
